When a parking lot reaches the point where cracks are too widespread for filling to be effective, another repair pass will not solve the underlying pavement condition. At Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, we saw a lot that had reached that stage. The college needed a cleaner, smoother parking area for students, along with a pothole repair, fresh striping, and accessible parking markings.

We had previously completed sealing and paving work for the school, so when the lot needed more extensive attention, they called us back.
When Crack Filling Was No Longer the Right Fix
The existing asphalt had too many cracks to make crack filling a practical solution. Instead of trying to extend the life of pavement that was already too far gone, we removed the worn asphalt and damaged sections so we could build the new surface from a sound starting point.
The pothole required extra attention.
Damage had reached into part of the base layer beneath the asphalt, so we removed that affected section as well. A pavement surface depends on the material supporting it, and leaving a compromised base in place would have worked against the new paving.
We then placed asphalt to level the area and prepare it for final paving. The following day, we returned to install fresh asphalt across the lot and bring the surface up to our standards.

Finishing the Lot With Clear, Accessible Markings
New pavement changed the look of the area, but the job still needed clear organization for daily campus parking. After paving, we painted new parking lines and refreshed the accessible spaces so students had easy visual guidance when entering and parking.
