This Lititz, PA project called for more than sealcoating alone. RDS Paving & Sealcoating worked with a repeat utility-contractor client to address several pavement needs across residential driveways, including compromised asphalt areas, cracks, and the broader pavement surfaces.
Rather than treating every condition the same way, the scope combined asphalt patching, crack filling, and sealcoating. Each service had a different role in the overall maintenance work.
Patching, Crack Filling, and Sealcoating for Different Pavement Needs
The existing pavement needed attention in more than one form, so we matched the work to the conditions being addressed:
- Asphalt patching was used for deteriorated or otherwise compromised pavement areas.
- Crack filling addressed openings where water could work its way below the pavement surface.
- Sealcoating provided a protective surface across the driveways and gave the finished asphalt a cleaner, more uniform appearance.
Those services work together, but they do not accomplish the same thing. A deteriorated area that needs patching cannot simply be treated the same way as an isolated crack, and sealcoating is intended for broader surface maintenance rather than replacing repairs the pavement already needs.
For this project, handling all three services within the same scope allowed us to address those different conditions before finishing the asphalt driveways with sealcoat.
Why the Repairs Came Before the Surface Treatment
Cracks and compromised pavement can leave openings for water to reach beneath the asphalt. Over time, that moisture can contribute to additional deterioration.
That is why the repair work and crack filling were important parts of this Lititz project before the broader sealcoating work. We addressed the areas requiring localized attention first so the sealcoat could serve its intended role as a surface treatment rather than being expected to cover over existing pavement problems.
Patching, crack filling, and sealcoating are all pavement maintenance services, but choosing where each one belongs is part of the job. In this case, the scope included targeted repairs and broader surface maintenance instead of relying on one treatment for every part of the pavement.
Returning to RDS Paving & Sealcoating for Different Asphalt Needs
The utility contractor behind this project had worked with RDS Paving & Sealcoating before and continues to contact us when asphalt repairs or maintenance are needed on its projects.
Those needs are not always identical. One project may involve a localized patch, while another may call for crack treatment, sealcoating, or several services together. In Lititz, the work required that combination.
After the repair and maintenance scope was completed, the residential driveways had a dark, generally uniform finished appearance, with the patching and crack-filling needs addressed as part of the same project.
If you have asphalt that needs both repair and ongoing maintenance in Lititz, contact us to discuss the pavement condition and the work it may require.
