A vendor we work with referred a customer who owns 10 McDonald’s restaurants throughout the region. They contacted RDS Paving & Sealcoating about crack sealing at each property. At their Camp Hill, PA restaurant, we completed the crack sealing at night to work around the property’s schedule.
Working Around Restaurant Traffic
At a restaurant, the parking lot is used for more than parking. Customers drive in and walk to the building, vehicles move toward the drive-through, employees come and go, and deliveries need access. Peak business hours also have to be considered when deciding when pavement work can take place.
Our goal was to complete the crack sealing with as little interference as possible for customers, employees, and deliveries. For Camp Hill, we scheduled the work at night rather than automatically choosing normal business hours. The timing needed to accommodate our crew as well as the restaurant’s daily activity.
Crack Sealing Across the Parking Lot and Drive-Through Approach
The cracks at Camp Hill extended through several areas of the existing asphalt. Long, branching sealed lines cross the main vehicle area, changing direction and meeting other cracks along the way. Other treated cracks run near marked accessible parking spaces and a drainage inlet.
We also sealed cracks along the drive-through approach and across parking areas closer to the street. The work covered places where drivers park, turn, and move through the restaurant property, not just an isolated crack at the edge of the lot.
Crack sealing is preventive maintenance for asphalt already in place. PennDOT’s guidance on crack sealing explains that sealing cracks helps limit water intrusion, which can contribute to further pavement deterioration.
Planning for a Ten-Restaurant Request
The Camp Hill job was part of a wider request. Traffic patterns, operating conditions, and access requirements may differ from one restaurant to the next, so a work window that fits one property might not work for another.
Across 10 properties, we also have crew travel and mobilization to consider. Efficient coordination is intended to reduce unnecessary trips, but not at the expense of giving each restaurant attention to its own operations. Planning and communication matter when balancing those two needs.
The customer was impressed with how we worked around their schedule at Camp Hill. They were also very pleased with the completed crack sealing and valued it as a way to help preserve the existing asphalt longer.
