"We Are Hiring!" Learn More

A pothole sitting in a high-traffic area can turn into a daily concern for a property owner. In this York, PA parking lot, the client wanted the damaged area handled before a customer vehicle hit the pothole and suffered damage. They found us through an online search and brought us in to complete the asphalt repair.

At BJ’s Wholesale, we did more than place asphalt over the top. Our crew cut out the failed section, removed the damaged material, corrected the base, installed fresh asphalt in layers, and sealed the perimeter of the patch.

The goal was simple: restore the driving surface and help keep water and debris from working into the repaired area.

Cutting Out the Failed Asphalt

The existing pothole had already broken through the parking lot surface. Since the location saw frequent vehicle traffic, we needed to remove the weakened section rather than leave unstable material beneath the repair.

We cut out the damaged portion and cleared it away, leaving a defined repair area. That gave us access to the base layer below the asphalt, which matters because a patch relies on the material beneath it for support.

Building a Better Foundation for the Patch

Once the damaged asphalt was gone, we leveled the base to create a stronger, more even foundation. From there, we installed fresh asphalt in layers, making sure each layer met the required standard before moving forward.

That step-by-step approach gave the repaired section the support it needed while allowing us to bring the surface back into the surrounding lot. RDS Paving & Sealcoating provides asphalt repair, patching, sealcoating, and other pavement maintenance services across Central Pennsylvania, including York.

For this property, we focused the work on the failed section, removed the damaged pavement, rebuilt the area underneath it, and tied the new patch into the existing parking lot.

“We removed the failed pavement, rebuilt the base, and installed fresh asphalt where York drivers needed a repaired surface.”

Sealing the Edges Against Water and Debris

After the new asphalt was in place, we sealed the edges where the patch met the existing parking lot. This final detail helped close off the seams so water and debris would have less opportunity to enter the repair and create new problems.

The finished patch replaced a rough, damaged pothole with a new section of asphalt. More importantly, the client no longer had the same concern over customers driving through that spot.

Their reaction summed up the result well:

“We are so glad to not have that pothole in our parking lot anymore. Thanks for everything you did!”
